People who live on the street fascinate me because I sometimes feel that none of us are very far away from where they are sitting. I admire their resilience and fortitude to wake up every morning and decide to give life another shot. The community that is built around homelessness is inspiring. They huddle together and support each other the best way that they can.
Many of the people were on;y one paycheck away from the streets. High rents, medical bills that they were unable to pay , untreated mental problems, substance abuse issues with no means to seek rehabilitation and the unforgiving politics of social marginalization has created a perpetual cycle of homelessness in America.
America is the richest country in the world, and yet we have millions of homeless people and children living on the streets or in their cars.
The faces of these people tell a story no one wants to see. They are no different from people who have a home, a family and a job.
They still dream of a better life, but what can they do about it?
In the words of President John F. Kennedy:
"For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal.”
