The photographs in this series depict a landscape of silent light. Most of the photographs were taken in March, April and May of 2020, when the world was locked down in the first stage of the coronavirus pandemic. I moved from NYC to a small island in British Columbia, Canada with my partner, not knowing how long I would be here. Like many islanders, I turned to nature during this upheaval for recalibration and equanimity. As I walked the paths of the island, I discovered landscapes that mirrored the enforced stillness of the shutdown. I became attuned to the golden hour light, especially during the late afternoons of April and May when it flooded our local park. The sunlight illuminated fronds of grass, strips of cedar, even wisps of moisture, and served as a reminder of the fragility of this place and time.
