Heat and Shade

While visiting Zanzibar, I was taken with the intense light and color. The sun was so bright that the shade took on a special importance. Many of my images explore how people arrange themselves into the shade, but at the same time embrace intense color. There is also a theme of Western Culture interrupting the existing cultures in Zanzibar and a sense of exported values.
