Is there a gesture that may be described as feminist? – I asked myself in the course of my research on photo-embroidery technique, trying to determine the role that fibre plays in it, and with a view to the newly discovered meaning and importance of a gesture. I understand feminism as an approach in which care constitutes one of its manifestations, support being the other. On the level of metaphor, these two concepts can be associated with the sashiko technique of reinforcing and repairing textiles. This technique reflects all the care and attention given to a piece of fabric that serves us as a garment with which we cover, protect and warm ourselves.
Following this logic, I carried out further visual experiments. This time, still influenced by the deadly pandemic and the emotions of uncertainty and fear it evoked, as well as the lack of social interactions, I decided to direct the camera lens towards myself. The effect of this experiment is a triptych Nothing Lasts, Nothing Is Finished, Nothing Is Perfect.
