As the philosophy of Aristotle used to convey, the adjective accidental doesn’t detract anything from the essence of the subject but, actually, provides it with further meanings such as qualities of exclusivity and movement: the subject is no longer static, but in progress.
The meaning of accidental is also linked to randomness. In fact, going back again to Aristotle we discover that being accidental is an unnecessary but possible condition; a mutation of the essence which happens by chance.
In Bello's shots a real mutation is not evident but the impulse can be perceived. The color stains ‐ which arise from the calcareous stone with their unusual shades ‐ are the clear interpretation of a transition that can happen.
Suspended between fine‐art and naturalistic photography, this project carries with it both the power of evocation and the energy to transmit, almost poised between simulacrum and reality.
