New selections from my main body of work, "Vibrant Night" (Light Painting Landscapes) that are either in the spirit of Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and/or Halloween. Although both harvest season holidays. along with the related All Hallows festival, partly derive from pagan origins (Aztec for Day of the Dead and Celtic for Halloween), they have a distinctly different emphasis: Unlike Halloween's focus on scary things, the Mexican "Day of the Dead" stresses the remembrance and honoring of those who have passed. Thus, the picture of the "descansos" (the memorial cross) is particularly relevant for that holiday. On the other hand, the terrifying Latin American legend of La Llorona (The Weeping Woman) -- who drowned her children and now wanders the dark wailing while looking for others to replace them -- could even find a home in the Halloween tradition.
